Which countries can participate in the Green Card Lottery?
All countries of the world are divided into two groups: those with a high proportion of immigration in the United States and countries with a low proportion of immigration.
Who defines it? This defines the U.S. Department of State on the basis of the actual number of natives of a country who have immigrated to the U.S. in recent years. Natives of countries with a low proportion of immigration can participate in the lottery, natives of countries with a high proportion may not. Example, Ukraine and most countries of the former Soviet Union are among the countries with a low share of immigration and, therefore, the natives of these countries can participate in the lottery.
